Watch this Quick Tips Video for instructions on how to review your degree evaluation and see what you still need to successfully graduate on time! You can access your degree evaluation in Banner Student>Records and Registration and should review your GPA, credits, and requirements to make sure you have a plan in place to complete any outstanding requirements.
Commencement is a ceremony to celebrate and recognize recent and upcoming graduates in the current academic year. Please note that participation in commencement is not a confirmation of graduation from your program and diplomas are not issued at the event. See Diplomas for more information about receiving your diploma.
Undergraduate Ceremony
Students earning a degree in the current academic year will be invited to participate in the commencement ceremony held annually each spring. This includes students who graduated in the most recently completed fall or winter term, and students with at least 100 credits (including in-progress) who will be completing all remaining requirements in the upcoming spring or summer term. Graduate Ceremony
Students earning a degree or certificate in the current academic year must complete the Commencement Participation Form online to participate in the commencement ceremony held annually each spring. Please visit the Commencement website for more information and details about the event.

Degrees and certificates are awarded to students who have completed all program requirements, and will be recorded on the student's academic transcript, approximately 2-4 weeks after final grades are received. As a reminder, students can order a free official transcript once the degree has been awarded but prior to receiving your diploma or certificate.
Diploma Information
Students legal name, degree, major, and Latin honors (if applicable) are listed on the diploma. Concentrations and minors are not printed on the diploma but will be noted on the academic transcript. Students may submit an email request to their degree auditor to change how their name is printed on their diploma or certificate, but it must be received prior to being awarded.
Expected Diploma Delivery Times
Students will be notified in their Southern email once the degree or certificate has been awarded. Parchment, Inc. is the official provider of official diplomas for Southern, so be on the lookout for an email from them to confirm the mailing address for your paper diploma, a paper diploma or certificate will be issued within 4-6 weeks. The email also includes instructions on how to access your e-diploma to share with family, friends, and employers instantly. There is no fee charged for the original diploma/certificate.
Reprints and Replacements
Students may order a duplicate/replacement diploma for a non-refundable $25 fee charged at the time of order.
Students may be eligible to receive Latin Honors for an undergraduate degree program based on their cumulative grade point average:
- 3.5-3.69 (Cum Laude)
- 3.7-3.89 (Magna Cum Laude)
- 3.9-4.0 (Summa Cum Laude)
Latin honors will be confirmed upon completion of a degree program and awarded on both the official transcript and diploma for students who earn at least 45 credits at Southern towards an undergraduate degree. To read the policy in full please visit the Undergraduate Catalog>>Latin Honors.
Eligible students are recognized at the Senior Honors Convocation Ceremony (see Convocation event details) and Commencement Ceremony (see Commencement event details).
