Department of Academic Advising

The faculty and administration at Southern recently approved changes to the Pass-Fail, Incomplete, and Withdrawal policies for Spring 2020 to provide you with every opportunity to achieve successful completion of your courses this semester, stay on track towards your graduation, and reduce the level of stress you are likely experiencing. There is time for you to carefully consider and evaluate your progress in courses before deciding to request any of these options. It is extremely important to work with your advisor to discuss how these options might impact you.

Pass-Fail Option:

Deadline: May 1, 2020

If you are struggling to perform as well as you would like in a course, one action you may consider is changing your grading option to pass-fail. To help you make the decision, talk to your advisor and learn more about the policy at Pass-Fail Option for Spring 2020; some exclusions may apply.

Incomplete Option:

Deadline: May 17, 2020

You may request an incomplete grade from your instructor. This will give you until September 25, 2020 to complete and submit your coursework. An extension may be granted by the instructor for additional time, if needed, or as an alternative, you will have the option to withdraw late from the course. An incomplete grade must be requested by the student to the instructor prior to the end of the semester.

Withdrawal Option:

Deadline: May 1, 2020

If you are not able to successfully complete a course this semester, you may decide to withdraw from it. This is a very difficult decision to make, as you will not receive credit for the course or a grade (a “W” will be recorded next to the course on your transcript). It is highly recommended you talk to your advisor or to someone in the Academic Advising Center before taking this action. It may be that you can talk to your instructor and receive an incomplete instead. You may select to withdraw from any course in Banner Web>>Student Services>>Registration by May 1, 2020.
