A consortium agreement allows matriculated students to attend classes at another institution and receive financial aid at SCSU (the home school). The student’s combined course load must be equivalent to at least half-time status (6 credits for undergraduate students, 4.5 credits for graduate students) each semester.

When an undergraduate SCSU student, who applies for financial aid, submits the Transfer Credit Approval form signed by a staff member of the Registrar’s Office (or a copy of an email from the Registrar’s Office notifying the student that the course(s) the student plans to take at another institution is/are transferable to SCSU), the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships will prepare a consortium agreement form and send it to the host school. The host school returns the completed consortium agreement form, showing enrollment and cost of attendance.  SCSU financial aid can then be processed.

When a graduate SCSU student, who applies for financial aid, submits a Change in Planned Program form signed by the School of Graduate Studies, the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships will prepare a consortium agreement form and send it to the host school. The host school returns the completed consortium agreement form, showing enrollment and cost of attendance. SCSU financial aid can then be processed.

Please note: The student must make payment arrangements with the host institution. Usually, the student must pay in advance for the course(s) taken at the host school. The student’s financial aid will be disbursed to SCSU, not to the host school. When the financial aid is disbursed to SCSU, and is greater than the balance the student owes to SCSU, the Student Accounts Office will refund any excess to the student.
