Liverpool
Liverpool John Moores University is one of SCSU's newest exchange partners, and the OIE is very excited to begin offering students the opportunity to study at this world-class university. LJMU is one of the top-20 largest universities in the UK, with over 24,000 graduate and undergraduate students.
LJMU is a fantastic place for students looking to earn credits toward their degree while getting a taste of the university experience across the pond. The university is split between four faculties, each incorporating a number of departments. These are:
- Faculty of Arts, Professional and Social Studies
- Faculty of Education, Health and Community
- Faculty of Science
- Faculty of Technology and Environment
Academic partnerships are currently being established between LJMU and Southern's School of Business, and the departments of Public Health; Geography, The Environment, and Marine Sciences; Recreation and Leisure, Exercise Science, English (including MFA Program), Computer Science, and Anthropology.
Liverpool, UK is probably best known as the birthplace of the Beatles, and the city has embraced its heritage as the "World Capital City of Pop." Students at LJMU should plan on visiting some of the city's visual art galleries, of which Liverpool has more than any other British city. There are also notable performing arts halls (such as the recently renovated Everyman Theatre) and annual theatre festivals, sponsored in part by the LJMU Drama department. Students looking for a more modern experience might be interested in checking out one of Liverpool's many pubs, comedy clubs and live music shows. LJMU is consistently ranked in the top 5 universities with a thriving nightlife.
