MLIS Graduation Checklist

  1. Degree Evaluation
You should check your Degree Evaluation and verify that all courses including the six core courses taken toward the degree are recorded and that all grades are accurate.  To graduate from the MLIS program, all students must complete 36 credits including the six core courses within a period of six years prior to the granting of the master’s degree.  A minimum grade of “B-“ is required in each of the five core courses (ILS 502, ILS 505, ILS 507, ILS 508, ILS 509).
  2. Capstone Experience
You should complete one of these three options: Comprehensive Exam (0 credit), Special Project (3 credits), or Thesis (3 credits).  This Capstone Experience is required by the School of Graduate and Professional Studies.
  3. Commencement Ceremony (OPTIONAL)
If you plan to participate in a graduation ceremony (held in May), fill out the application form at https://www.southernct.edu/commencement

Diplomas and Transcripts

Students may log into Banner Student to review their Degree Evaluation and graduation checklist at any time to verify outstanding requirements.   A student's official graduation, or conferral date, is determined by a student's final course completion date, once all academic program requirements have been met. The degree or certificate awarded will be reflected on the student’s official transcript.

Once the degree has been awarded, you will get an email within 1-2 weeks with instructions on how to access your official e-diploma.  A paper diploma/certificate will be issued to the mailing address on file within 4-6 weeks.  Visit the Student Records website for more information about ordering an official transcript or receiving your diploma.
