Admission Requirements

In addition to the admission requirements of the School of Graduate Studies, all applicants must submit the following documents  to the Graduate School application system:

  • A one-page statement indicating their academic background, area of interest and their career plans.
  • Three letters of recommendation.

Candidates seeking admission are expected to have a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field with a grade point average (GPA) of at least a 3.0 (out of 4.0).  Candidates who do not meet the GPA requirement must seek advisement from the Graduate Program Coordinator to determine if conditional acceptance is possible.

Prerequisites

Students with a bachelor's degree in majors other than Computer Science or a computer-related field must take the following course:

  • CSC 505: Computer Programming & Data Structures (4 credits)

Students entering the program with a computer science degree may have courses from the core waived by the Graduate Coordinator.  However, under such circumstances, all waived credits must be made up with elective courses to ensure that a student has 36-credits upon completion of the program.  The Graduate Coordinator will consult with the student to determine core course waivers.

Computer Science Requirements

No more than 9 credits of graduate-level Computer Science related courses may be transferred from other institutions.  Once the university has a completed application file with all required documentation,  the Graduate Coordinator will arrange a personal interview with the applicant.

International Students

If you are an international student, please visit the School of Graduate Studies website for requirements and the graduate catalog which address commonly asked questions.

After Admission Requirements are Satisfied

All students who satisfy the admission requirements of the program must draft a program of study in consultation with the Graduate Coordinator of the department. The planned program will outline all courses that must be completed before the master's degree is conferred.  Students will select the concentration area of their interest, elective courses, and either a thesis or a special project capstone option. Upon final approval of the application and planned program by the Dean of Graduate Studies, applicants will receive a letter of acceptance and a copy of the planned program verifying their status as a matriculated graduate student.
