Services available to students who are bilingual and looking for support with the English language structure:

Extended Time on Exams/Quizzes

To promote fairness and inclusivity, we're offering extended time on exams and quizzes for English Language Learners (ELLs). Here's what you need to know:

  1. Eligibility: If you're an ELL student approved for this accommodation, you'll receive extra time on exams and quizzes, tailored to your needs.
  2. How to Request: Schedule an appointment with either Jen Martinez or Alexandra Hidalgo through Navigate and they will be able to assist you on getting the extended time.

Bilingual Writing and Comprehension

Tutors are there to support students with basic English language structure.  Appointments can be made on navigate. 

Academic Support

There is a variety of academic support through Tutors, PALS, and Academic Success Coaches. There are several who speak another language and the information is listed below.  Additionally, if you need support with a course that does not have someone who speaks your language, you can fill out this form and we can work to find an interpreter for your session in your language.

Peer Mentors for Bilingual Students

Meet with Spanish-speaking peers to help support you with questions about anything you need. You can make an appointment with one through navigate.

How can I schedule an appointment with a Peer Mentor for Bilingual Students?

Making an appointment is simple! All appointments are made through Navigate, which you can access via MySCSU.

Select "Make an Appointment"> "Center for Academic Success & Accessibility Services"> "Conversation Partners for English Language Learners"> and lastly, select a date and time that works for you! You can also call or visit our front desk, and our Success Navigators can assist you with setting up an appointment!

    Conversation Partners

    If you wish to strengthen your English skills, we offer conversation partners where you can freely speak to them about whatever you are comfortable with. Conversation partners can benefit:

    1. Practical Learning: Conversations with fluent speakers offer real-life language practice, improving your speaking skills, pronunciation, and vocabulary.
    2. Cultural Insights: You gain cultural context and insight, enhancing your understanding of the language and the culture it represents.
    3. Motivation and Confidence: Engaging with fluent speakers boosts your motivation and confidence, making your language learning journey more rewarding.
