
The department strongly recommends studying abroad for language majors and minors and works with the International Programs office to place students in living and learning environments where students are immersed in language and culture. Majors and minors should discuss options with their advisers, and interested students should contact the IP office directly. In addition, the program offers several study-abroad experiences led by faculty during summer break.
The department offers a one-month summer (July) program in Salamanca for undergraduate and graduate students, who can earn up to six credits. Interested students should contact Dr. Rafael Hernández at hernandezr3@southernct.edu.
Dr. Pina Palma leads a one-month summer (July) program in Montepulciano (Tuscany) for undergraduate and graduate students, who can earn six credits of coursework in Italian language and culture. Interested students should contact Dr. Palma directly.

Dr. Luke Eilderts and Dr. Camille Serchuk lead a one-month summer (June 2025) program in Paris for undergraduates and graduates, who can earn six credits of coursework in French language and culture. Interested students should contact Dr. Eilderts or Dr. Serchuk for more information on courses and activities. Questions regarding financial aid should be directed to that office. Universitat Jaume I offers a variety of courses in both Spanish and English programs. The Spanish program offers a variety of intensive, semi-intensive, and tailor-made courses to meet the needs of learners of Spanish at a variety of levels. Students interested in taking advanced courses in various content disciplines can do so through general offerings at the Universitat Jaume I that teaches 80% of courses in Spanish.
