Cross-Endorsement: Bilingual Education
State Requirements (as of 12/06/14)
Teachers holding a valid Connecticut teaching certificate in one of the following endorsement areas may add the bilingual education endorsement: Elementary endorsements: #113, #305, #013, #005, #001; Secondary academic endorsements: #010, #015, #026, #029, #030, #031, #032, #033, #034; and Middle grades academic subject areas: #215, #226, #229, #230, #231, #232, #233, #234 and #235.
Teacher applicants must complete the following assessments:

Praxis I Computer Based Test: The reading and writing components of Praxis I CBT are required.

Language Proficiency: Demonstrated oral and written proficiency in the language of the bilingual program (OPI & WPT), and English oral proficiency (OPI)
AND
18 semester hours of credit from an accredited college, including course work in each of the following areas:

First and second language acquisition;

Linguistic and academic assessment;
-
Cross-cultural sensitivity and communication and implications for instruction;

Strategies for modifying English content area instruction;
-
Methods of teaching English as a second language; and
-
Methods of teaching bilingual education.
