New Students

Are you a newly admitted first-year or transfer student who's eager to create a course schedule for your first semester at Southern? Read below for information on what you need to do!

COURSE SCHEDULES FOR FALL 2020

For the safety of our students, faculty and staff, we are working hard to make sure our Fall 2020 new first-year student course schedules are created in a way that is compliant with any social distancing measures put forth by the state. This produces a slight delay in our regular schedule building process, but we will be sure to post all updates on this page.  This process requires all new first-year students to register for New Student Orientation (NSO) to get added to the course schedule registration list and we’ll take care of the rest!

Due to the impact of COVID-19, the University has established multiple course delivery formats for the Fall 2020 semester. Please visit the "Fall 2020 Course Delivery Formats" page for details.

JUNE 2020
All new first-year students who have registered for an NSO session will be enrolled in a full-time block of 15 credits. You will receive an email from an Academic Advisor with more details regarding enrollment. This block is not your official course schedule, but simply a placeholder that reserves and secures your enrollment for Fall 2020.  Official course schedules will be created starting in July.

JULY 2020
Over the course of the month of July, new first-year students who have registered for an NSO session will be removed from the 15-credit placeholder and enrolled in their full schedule of courses for Fall 2020. Your schedule will be based on your major, your English and Math placements, course availability, and the information you provide when you register for NSO!  Once your schedule is created, an Academic Advisor will contact you at your Southern email account with all of the information you need regarding your first semester classes!

Once you pay your admissions deposit through the Undergraduate Admissions Portal, you will be able to register for an academic advising appointment. During this appointment with an Academic Advisor, you will:

  • discuss how your credits transferred and what requirements remain
  • review a pathway toward graduation
  • learn about important University resources
  • register for your first semester classes

Due to the impact of COVID-19, the University has established multiple course delivery formats for the Fall 2020 semester. Please visit the "Fall 2020 Course Delivery Formats" page for details.
