Making Meaningful Connections and Solving Global Issues

Southern has a strong history of engaging students with both undergraduate and graduate research opportunities. Working directly with faculty mentors, students are given the chance to lead the way to address significant issues from climate change to social justice to ensuring optimal teaching practices. Souther provides students with the skills learned in research methods courses to tackle these and other problems facing our communities today.

From a recent student research survey, students report they are authoring or co-authoring with faculty on a number of conference presentations, posters, books, book chapters and peer-reviewed articles.

Research Funding and Celebrations

  • Southern provides students who attend conferences the opportunity to apply for funding.
  • Faculty can also request graduate research assistant funding.
  • We showcase student research from their first year, in the FYRE projects and through the undergraduate and graduate student research showcase events.
