FYRE Research Fellowship

Southern Connecticut State University is pleased to announce a Provost FYRE Research Fellowship to support independent undergraduate research during the summer or academic year of the student’s second year. This initiative is funded by the SCSU Foundation.

A single FYRE Fellowship of $3,000 will be awarded to an outstanding first-year student based on the work they conduct and present as part of their FYRE project. The fellowship can be used to complete research in any academic discipline on the SCSU campus. The student awardee will select a faculty member who agrees to act as a mentor guiding the project. The faculty mentor will receive payment for one credit for their guidance of the FYRE fellow research.

The FYRE project award will be based on the following criteria (below),

Judged out of 10 points:

  1. Strength of Research Question
    • Does the research question align with the mission of SCS?
    • Can the research question be addressed through expertise found at SCSU?
    • Does the current research question lead to further exploration (past the current semester)
  2. Use of research methodology
  3. Findings
  4. Application
  5. Presentation (poster and discussion)

The FYRE projects that will be displayed during the FYRE sessions will be judged by the Provost and two Associate Vice Presidents within academic affairs before the FYRE presentations; a colleague from the Academic Affairs staff will assist with the judging of the presentation.

The winner of the Fellowship will be announced during the FYRE Award Presentation Event.
