Password Information

All Southern Connecticut State University students, faculty, and staff are issued University accounts. This account can be used to access most technology resources by logging into the MySCSU web portal, hosted by Microsoft’s MyApps service.

Your SCSU account (email address and password) can also be used for:

Remote Computer Password Reset

Faculty, Staff, and Students who are using university machines to Remote Work will need to be cautious in how their password is reset. All remote users who are attempting to reset their password should check in with the Help Desk to ensure that they will not be locked out of their machines at home when a password reset is attempted. Please ensure that you have about 15 – 20 minutes to perform the password reset as the new password takes time to propagate to the machine and cloud account.

Password Restrictions

All passwords must be complex and have a 365-day expiration policy. When creating a new password, keep in mind the following password restrictions:

  • Must contain at least one letter.
  • Must contain at least one number.
  • Must contain at least one special character.
  • Must not contain personal information (i.e. First & Last name).
  • Must be at least eight characters long.
  • Must not be one of your last 6 passwords.
  • Review Best Practices.

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)

Faculty, Staff and Students will be required to use Multi-Factor authentication when accessing SCSU accounts from off-campus. Also, employees who use an SCSU provided Apple macOS computer should review the Apple macOS and Keychain Access article for tips on how to avoid keychain access errors.

To prevent others from accessing your personal information, you should always log out of the service(s) or websites after using MyApps. The best way to do this is to log out of all services and websites that you have accessed and then completely exit your web browser. If you are having problems signing in to your account, you can reset your password by going to the SCSU password reset page. If you are having problems resetting your password contact the IT Help Desk at 203-392-5123 or email HelpDesk@SouthernCT.edu.
