Sheila Carmon brings over 25 years of diverse professional experience to the role of LSAMP Project Director. With a background encompassing organizational management, program development, community engagement, and educational leadership, Sheila is uniquely positioned to drive positive change in STEM education. 

Before joining Southern CT State University as LSAMP Project Director, Sheila served as Deputy Community Services Administrator for the City of New Haven, where she oversaw a wide array of health and human services programs. In this capacity, she managed multi-million-dollar budgets, facilitated collaborations across sectors, and implemented initiatives to address systemic inequalities and enhance community well-being.

 Sheila has also made significant contributions to education as an adjunct faculty member at both the University of New Haven and the Connecticut State Community College System. She has a proven track record of creating inclusive learning environments and mentoring students from diverse backgrounds toward academic success. In her volunteer capacity, Sheila has been actively involved in initiatives aimed at supporting underrepresented youth. She has chaired the Services to Youth Committee for the New Haven (CT) Chapter of Links, Incorporated, where she led efforts to assist students, particularly first-generation minority students, with college admissions and enrollment processes. Outside of her professional endeavors, Sheila enjoys spending time with family and friends, indulging in spa treatments to relax and rejuvenate, and exploring new leisure activities. Her commitment to personal wellness and maintaining strong social connections reflects her holistic approach to life and work.

 Sheila Carmon holds a Master of Public Health from the University of Bridgeport, a Master of Business Administration from the University of New Haven, and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Morgan State University. She is deeply committed to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in STEM education and looks forward to leveraging her skills and expertise to advance the mission of The Nutmeg State LSAMP program.
