University Assistant - General Education

The University Assistant (UA) is under the supervision and assessment of the AVPAA and will provide support for the general education programs. The UA will work closely with the Faculty Coordinators for LEP and Writing. The UA will help to ensure that Southern’s general education courses are assessed each semester as mandated by the BOR, the Connecticut Department of Higher Education, and NECHE.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in ensuring that transfer student records are updated expediently (based on their approved coursework);
  • Assists with collecting rubric assessment data generated by faculty (instrument/technology tbd)
  • Updates documentation for instructors and academic departments
  • Assists with administrative support for general education
  • Coordinates with academic departments and colleges in implementing and collecting assessment data
  • Assist with providing correspondence support services for general education faculty coordinators
  • Assists with general education communication channels, including updates to website, email, and social media
  • Assist with ensuring that all activities are conducted within the established guidelines of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
  • Collaborates with Assessment and Planning
  • Performs other related duties as required

Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree is required (Master's degree is preferred). Two to three years of experience working with external and internal partners, instructors, department chairs, and students. Ability to work independently, with attention to detail and deadlines. Will be required to participate in meetings, conferences, and other activities related to the operations of the general education program.

Must be able to foster positive working relationships with various individuals, groups, and departments. Experience with Microsoft Office, Banner Software system, Blackboard LMS, and Navigate’s Student Success Management System are preferred. This is a UA position that allows a maximum of 19 hours per week with compensation commensurate with experience. Candidates must be available to work during normal business hours (8:30 am - 4:30 pm, Monday - Friday).
