University Assistant - Office of the Provost & Vice President for Academic Affairs

Expected Start Date: February 2025
Hours/Week: 19 hours (Monday–Friday, with occasional evening events)
Hourly Wage: $18–$22 (based on experience and credentials)
Location: Southern Connecticut State University

The Office of the Provost & VP for Academic Affairs is seeking a highly organized, self-motivated University Assistant (UA) to support event planning, promotion, and research for key university initiatives. This is a temporary, part-time position, with the possibility of renewal. The UA will assist with coordinating and executing high-profile events, including:

  • Honors Convocation
  • Celebration of Excellence
  • Leadership Retreats
  • Faculty Luncheons
  • Other academic and administrative events

This position is ideal for someone with event planning experience, strong communication skills, and a passion for higher education administration.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S./B.A.) required
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Professional communication experience (e.g., emailing/calling internal & external contacts)
  • Exceptional organizational and project management abilities
  • Availability to work 19 hours/week during business hours (8 AM – 5 PM), with flexibility for occasional evening events

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in event planning and coordination
  • Background in communications, journalism, marketing, or digital design
  • Familiarity with website management, blogging, and social media marketing
  • Proficiency in desktop publishing (e.g., writing, graphics, layout)
  • Experience with video production and/or photography

Key Responsibilities

  • Event Planning & Execution – Assist with logistics, scheduling, and coordination of university events
  • Marketing & Promotion – Design promotional materials (posters, handouts, social media graphics, etc.)
  • Communication & Coordination – Collaborate with internal departments and University Marketing & Communications
  • Administrative Support – Perform front-office duties as needed
  • Other Duties as Assigned This role requires a high level of professionalism, independence, and problem-solving skills while working in a fast-paced academic environment.
