The Collections Assistant is responsible for all administration and collection functions of inactive/past due student accounts receivable.

Position Responsibilities

Coordinate transition of active accounts to inactive accounts.

Update and maintain all BANNER information on inactive accounts.

Responsible for billing and collection of all inactive student account balances.

Perform due diligence requirements in the administration and collection of past due accounts.

Responsible for counseling students with past due accounts regarding payment plan options as needed. Reconcile, analyze and report monthly aging activity.

Monitor and reconcile in-house and agency payment, collection and commission activity.

Recommend changes to collections polices and procedures.

Write-off inactive accounts each month in collaboration with Accounting.

Analyze and project allowance for bad debts in collaboration with Accounting.

Monitor and reconcile assigned balance sheet accounts monthly in collaboration with Accounting.

May supervise a clerical employee and university assistant.

Performs others duties and responsibilities related to those enumerated above which do not alter the basic level of responsibility of the position.

Qualifications

Bachelors degree required and a minimum two (2) years of experience in a related field. Collections experience required (tuition experience preferred). Current knowledge of federal regulation concerning due diligence and bankruptcy regulation preferred. Ability to apply best practice to integrated computer systems. Demonstrated computer skills with accounting systems and spreadsheets required (Microsoft Office and integrated computer system). Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential. Problem solving and reconciliation skills. Experience operating all office equipment including, but not limited to, computers, adding machines, copy machines, telephones, voice mail, e-mail, etc. is required.
