The Associate Dean works closely with the Dean on a full range of activities associated with the school, including but not limited to scheduling of classes, registration issues, and faculty-student conflict. The Associate Dean will implement strategic school-wide initiatives and take a strategic, data-informed approach to enrollment management in collaboration with the department chairpersons and other departments on campus. Assist and/ or represent the Dean to the school's diverse constituencies. Will exercise innovative, pro-active problem-solving in guiding the academic departments and follow through on key action items. Primary responsibility for the STEM disciplines and will serve as the primary point of contact for department chairpersons in STEM.
Position Responsibilities
The Associate Dean is accountable to the Dean of the School of Arts & Sciences and is the dean's deputy in all matters concerning the School of Arts & Sciences.
Responsible for the scheduling of STEM courses offered for both the academic year and special sessions (i.e. summer and wintersession).
Collaborates with his/her counterpart in the Dean's office.
Performs various ad hoc assignments for the Dean or Provost.
May supervise staff as needed.
Performs other duties and responsibilities related to those enumerated above which do not alter the basic level of responsibility of the position.
Qualifications
Doctoral degree in a STEM discipline and three to five years of experience in academic administration, at or above the level of department chairperson, assistant chairperson, or program director. College teaching experience is strongly preferred. These qualifications may be waived for individuals with appropriate alternate experience.
