Brief Description of Duties/Responsibilities

Southern invites applications from individuals who believe in the mission of public higher education and are committed to outstanding teaching and scholarship/creative activity. Successful candidates will be disciplinary scholars devoted to a student-centric approach. The Department of Special Education is seeking to fill a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor to begin Fall, 2025. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching applied behavior analysis (ABA) and related special education courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. In addition to teaching responsibilities, faculty are required to engage in scholarship/creative activity, service to the department and University, professional participation, and student advising.

While the nominal teaching load is 12 credits per semester, there is the opportunity for reassigned time.

Required Qualifications

  • Earned doctorate or ABD in Special Education, Applied Behavior Analysis and/or related area.
  • Certification as a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), in good standing by the time of appointment with doctoral designation eligibility.
  • Certification in special education (PK-12).
  • Hold or be eligible to hold behavior analysis licensure in the State of Connecticut.
  • Three years of full-time experience educating individuals with disabilities.
  • Experience supervising undergraduate and/or graduate in clinical or educational settings.
  • Evidence of strong potential for scholarly activity leading to peer-reviewed publications, external grants or other support, and presentations at professional conferences.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse student populations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience teaching behavior analysis and/or special education courses at the undergraduate or graduate level.
  • Evidence of delivering courses across various formats, including in-person, hybrid, and online learning environments.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in leadership roles.
