Southern’s Department of Curriculum and Learning seeks applicants for a full-time, tenure-track position at the Assistant level to begin August 2024. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the initial certification teacher preparation programs and the graduate MS program in Curriculum and Instruction, with a focus on curriculum development and theory, instructional design, and teacher learning. The successful candidate will also employ leadership skills in service to the teacher certification programs. Additional responsibilities include student teaching supervision and advising students.

Qualifications Required

  • Earned doctorate or ABD (must earn doctorate by end of first year of appointment) in curriculum and instruction, teacher education, educational studies, or related field,
  • Minimum 3 years full time relevant k-12 teaching experience,
  • Evidenced ability to teach university level courses in curriculum development and instructional design,
  • Evidenced potential in leadership within teacher education programs,
  • Knowledge of culturally sustaining pedagogies,
  • Strong demonstrated potential for scholarly activity leading to peer-reviewed publications, external grants or other support, and conference presentations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience teaching in schools that serve diverse student populations,
  • Evidence of potential for leadership and collaborative engagement with school and community organizations,
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching on campus and online instructional modalities,
  • Experience engaging in the process of educational program assessment and improvement, preferably as it relates to program accreditation,
  • Experience as a university student teacher supervisor.
