Unable to Edit an OnBase Contract?
If you are unable to edit your Lecturer Appointment Form (LAF) or another OnBase document, the issue is often related to OnBase's document locking feature and can usually be resolved in a few minutes without assistance.
Why This Happens
When an OnBase document is opened in a web browser, the system temporarily "checks out" or locks the document to prevent conflicting edits and maintain data integrity.
Common causes include:
- Opening the same contract in multiple browser tabs or windows.
- Accidentally clicking the contract link more than once.
- A browser session ending unexpectedly while the document was still open.
When this occurs, only the first tab that opened the document allows editing. Additional tabs may display the document as read-only or indicate that the document is locked.
Troubleshooting steps, listed in order of the most likely solutions:
Option 1: Close Additional Browser Tabs
This resolves the most reported issues.
- Close all browser tabs containing the OnBase contract.
- Reopen only a single instance of the contract.
- Attempt to edit and submit the contract again.
Option 2: Close and Reopen Your Browser
This often clears temporary session issues.
- Save any work in other applications.
- Completely close all browser windows.
- Wait a moment and reopen your browser.
- Return to the contract link and open it again.
Option 3: Wait for the Lock to Expire
If the document remains locked, the previous session may not have released the lock. In some situations, OnBase retains the lock until the session times out.
- Close your browser completely.
- Wait approximately 20 minutes.
- Reopen the contract and try again.
