Welcome Families to Campus
Southern Connecticut State University is more than where you work — it's a place you've helped build. Bring Your Child to Campus Day is your chance to share it with the young people in your life. Whether you're a parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle, or guardian, this day is designed for you and the children you care about.
This event is co-sponsored by the Administrative Faculty Senate and the President's Recognition Initiative for Staff Employees, and is open to faculty, staff, and students.
How the Day Works
Children stay with their parents and guardians throughout the day — a deliberate choice to make the event more inclusive and accessible for children with a wide range of needs and comfort levels.
Need to Step Away?
A staffed sign-in/sign-out space will be available in the Nest where children can continue participating in supervised activities if a parent needs to briefly attend a meeting or handle a work obligation.
Time & Attendance
Faculty: Attending campus events during the workday is part of academic life at SCSU — no additional approval needed.
Staff: Participation during working hours requires the use of vacation or personal time, coordinated with your supervisor.
Schedule & Activities
A full schedule of activities will be shared with registered participants. Activities are designed for a range of ages and interests. Register now to stay informed as details are confirmed.
Why We Designed It This Way
In past versions of events like this — at SCSU and elsewhere — children were typically separated from their parents for most of the day, supervised by volunteers. We considered that model, but ultimately chose a different path.
Keeping families together makes the day more inclusive for children with diverse needs, reduces anxiety for both kids and caregivers, and reflects our broader commitment to a campus that supports the whole person. This event was inspired in part by conversations about how campuses can better support students who are parents and caregivers — and one of our guiding priorities has been ensuring that students with children feel just as welcome as everyone else.
This is the first year we're bringing this program back to life, and we're building it with intention. The goal isn't just a fun day — it's to make SCSU feel like a place where all of who you are belongs.
