The Administrative Faculty Senate (AFS) accomplishes its work through the dedication and collaborative efforts of its various committees. These committees are essential to our shared governance mission, allowing us to delve into specific areas of focus, develop recommendations, and ensure the administrative faculty voice is heard across the university.

Below is an overview of the AFS Standing Committees and their vital roles for the current academic year.

Standing Committees

Executive Committee

The Executive Committee acts as the central body for the AFS, ensuring its effective operation and representing administrative faculty to the University administration and Board of Regents. It also addresses time-sensitive matters and provides counsel to the University President on behalf of the administrative faculty.

Steering Committee

The Steering Committee plays a vital role in guiding the AFS strategically and ensuring alignment across all its activities. Additionally, it supports new senators and leads the development of strategic plans for the AFS, which are then recommended to the Executive Committee.

Administrative Policy Advisory Committee

This committee advocates for administrative faculty input on university policies, ensuring these policies align with the University's strategic goals and best practices. It also provides recommendations on policies with university-wide impact.

Constitution & Bylaws Committee

The Constitution and By-Laws Committee ensures the AFS governing documents are current and effective, drafts amendments, ensures alignment of AFS actions with these documents, provides guidance on procedural matters, and maintains accessible governance information.

Empowerment and Engagement Committee

This committee works to empower and engage administrative faculty by fostering a supportive and inclusive environment where they can thrive. It also recognizes and celebrates their contributions to the university community.

Nominations & Elections Committee

The Nominations and Elections Committee coordinates senator nominations, oversees AFS elections and recall petitions, and ensures adherence to election procedures, notifying administrative faculty and the President's Office of results.

Sabbatical Leave Committee

This committee is responsible for creating sabbatical leave policies and procedures that align with the SUOAF Collective Bargaining Agreement. It evaluates sabbatical leave applications on their merit, provides recommendations to the University President, and informs administrative faculty about the process and opportunities.

Ad Hoc Committees

Senate Membership Committee

The Senate Membership Committee seeks to discover how the AFS might expand to include all staff members at SCSU and provide logistical support for the integration process.  This includes assessing current membership structures, identifying potential barriers to inclusion, and developing strategies to ensure equitable representation and engagement across all staff groups.

Training & Professional Development Assessment Committee

The Training & Professional Development Assessment Committee will conduct a comprehensive assessment of university training programs affecting administrative faculty, document gaps and best practices, and develop strategic recommendations for institutional improvement and AFS program enhancement.
