Our Mission and Purpose
In alignment with the overarching missions and goals of the Division of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, Campus Climate Support is charged with responding to, educating around, and reporting to the campus about campus climate concerns.
Campus climate concerns can include conduct, speech or expression that negatively targets, intimidates, or threatens an individual or group due to race, ethnicity, ancestry, national origin, religion, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, physical, mental, and intellectual disabilities, language/language expression, veteran status, physical appearance, as well as past/present history of mental disorders.
Our mission is to empower all faculty, staff, and students and to ensure they all feel safe, heard, valued, and included on campus.
We seek to provide interactions that help all faculty, staff, and students experience a sense of community, belonging, and access to resources, which help navigate challenges that sometimes arise. We do not seek to limit academic freedom or freedom of speech and expression, but rather, to foster a campus community where faculty, staff, and students of all identities feel welcomed and supported.
Our primary role is to review climate concerns, appropriately respond, provide support to the community based on the nature of the incident, and work collaboratively to provide educational outreach to the campus. We do not replace any of the formal policies in place to resolve alleged violations of student conduct, discrimination, sexual misconduct, or violations of criminal law.
