From the President: Happy Thanksgiving!

November 26, 2024

Dear Southern community,

As we approach this season of gratitude, a time when we gather with those we love and cherish, it's a perfect moment to pause and reflect on the many gifts we have been afforded.

In the spirit of thankfulness, I want to express my sincere appreciation to the faculty, staff, and scholars who make Southern such a vibrant and welcoming place. I am grateful to be part of this diverse and dynamic community, and as we head into the holiday season, I encourage each of you to take time for self-care, celebrate your achievements, and prepare to finish the fall semester strong.

This season also invites us to reach out with compassion to those who are facing hardship—whether they are struggling with health challenges, emotional pain, or living in uncertainty. In a world that too often feels divided, we have an opportunity to approach this moment with humility, active listening, and reflection. By doing so, we can nurture a sense of belonging and unity, ensuring that everyone in our Southern community—and beyond—feels seen, valued, and supported.

I wish all of you a safe, joyful, and peaceful Thanksgiving.

Sincerely,

Dr. D
