From the President: Happy Holidays, Southern

December 24, 2025

Dear Southern Community,

As we bring the year to a close, I am taking this opportunity to thank you for the steady commitment and care you bring to Southern. Your work is often done quietly, but always with great purpose. It continues to shape lives and strengthen our community in lasting ways.

We reached important milestones this year as a university, achieving national recognition as an R2 research university, being named a top producer of Fulbright U.S. Scholars, and proudly graduating more than 2,000 students in the Class of 2025. We also marked meaningful moments of connection and recognition, including the 100th anniversary of our Alumni Association, national and regional honors earned by faculty, staff, athletic and academic programs, and the opportunity to welcome new colleagues whose expertise and perspectives continue to strengthen our campus.

Throughout the year, we have also looked inward to reduce inefficiencies, remove barriers, and improve communication, especially in the systems and processes shaping our daily work, so we can focus more fully on what matters most. I am grateful for how you prioritize care for each student, foster inclusive and welcoming environments, and connect learning to meaningful careers, research, and service. I believe we all do our best when we feel supported, resourced, and encouraged.

As the year concludes, I hope this holiday season offers you time to rest, reflect, and enjoy precious time with friends and family. Thank you for all that you do for Southern and for one another. Happy Holidays and best wishes for a healthy and fulfilling new year.

With gratitude,

Dr. Sandy Bulmer
Interim President
