Wellness Center Services

The Wellness Center at Southern is responsible for broad undergraduate and graduate student health outreach on topics including, but not limited to: sexual health, tobacco use, nutrition, drugs and alcohol, sleep and stress.

The staff facilitates health promotion activities for the campus community, including educational sessions, special events, outreach in residence halls and classrooms, and other programs upon request. For more information or to request a presentation for a class or group, please contact us at (203) 392-6526.

Don't Cancel Your Class: Invite A Guest Speaker

Have a conference or a meeting that you know about ahead of time? Don't cancel your class! Instead, invite a guest speaker from the Wellness Center, VPAS (Violence Prevention, Victim Advocacy, and Support) Center, or Counseling Services to present to your class. The staff member(s) will meet with your class, present on the topic chosen, and can take attendance if requested. Please click here to fill out our request form for classroom presentations. We will do our very best to find coverage for your class. After your form is received, a staff member from the Wellness Center will be in contact with you to confirm and clarify any questions.

Condom Owl

She delivers condoms to all undergraduate and graduate students on Southern's Campus! Feel free to click here to order your FREE safer sex supply kit.

Condom Dispensers

Free condom dispensers are located in every Residence Hall in the first or second floor utility room, and in the restrooms on the Plaza Level of the Student Center. Take a look at this map to see all the locations of condom dispensers on campus! 

*Free condoms and menstrual products are also available in the Wellness Center.*

Get Yourself Tested

Walk right in for quick and confidential STD testing for FREE while supplies last. Testing is held at Health Services in Granoff Hall. Spring 2020 Walk-In clinic dates:

Wednesday, March 25th @ 12-2 PM
Thursday, April 23rd @ 12-2 PM
$10 fee applies. Testing is always available at Health Services by appointment.

Coffee with Commuters

For those undergraduate and graduate students on-the-go! Grab some coffee, hot chocolate, and a snack before you head to class in the Wintergreen Parking Garage vestibule. Spring 2020 DatesTBD. In the meantime, take a look at the resources available to you as a commuter student.

Vape Quit Kit

Interested in quitting JUUL, or any other tobacco product? Free and confidential quit kits are available for all undergraduate and graduate students. Order your FREE quit kit, and let us know if you would like it delivered straight to your residence hall (for residential students) or picked up in the Wellness Center located in Schwartz Hall.

Virtual Vape & Other Tobacco Cessation Services

Quitting nicotine can be challenging. Finding your path to a tobacco free life is easier with the right help. Learn strategies and tips to manage cravings and quit nicotine for good. Sessions are free, confidential, and can be conducted over the phone or virtually. Contact tobacco treatment specialist, Victoria Adams, at adamsv2@southernct.edu to learn more.

Ask The Dietitian

A Registered Dietitian will be in the Fitness Center: ASC 204 this spring to answer your diet and nutrition questions and help you make healthy choices. No membership required.

Narcan Training

Free Narcan training is available on campus. Training includes:

  • Effects of opioids on the brain and addiction
  • Overdose prevention strategies
  • Signs and symptoms of overdose
  • How to administer Narcan
  • Good Samaritan Law  
  • Narcan kit

Learning objectives:

  • Increase knowledge of the opioid crisis
  • Develop knowledge on the use of Narcan
  • Promote awareness of the signs of opioid overdose
  • Provide resources for treatment
