Student and Program Assessment (Tk20)

The BSW program is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). CSWE has identified assessment of student competencies as one primary departmental activity in their Educational Policies and Accreditation Standards (EPAS). The BSW curriculum prepares students to demonstrate 42 competencies in course learning assignments and in the field placement.

To assess these competencies, the Social Work department uses an online assessment and reporting software program called Tk20. Many student assignments and the field evaluation forms will be submitted into TK20. All students are required to purchase a Tk20 account. You will have access to this account for ten years. Your account can be used to store documents that you might use in an MSW program and/or when searching for employment.

Obtaining a Tk20 Account

To purchase your account online:

1. Go to https://southernct.tk20.com
2. Click the link in the bottom left-hand corner: Click here to purchase or register your student account.
3. Select the option: I need to purchase my Tk20 student account.
4. Click Submit.

You will receive an email once your account has been activated (2-3 business days). NOTE: be sure to check spam/junk mail folders for activation email.

To purchase through the bookstore:

1. Purchase a Tk20 Student Activation Kit at the bookstore. The kit contains a unique registration number.
2. Go to https://southernct.tk20.com
3. Click the link in the bottom left-hand corner: Click here to purchase or register your student account.

  • Login: SCSU username (i.e.: lastf1)
  • Password: 8-digit SCSU ID number
  • At first login you will be prompted to reset your password

Academic Standards for Continuance

Continuation in the undergraduate program is contingent upon positive ongoing faculty evaluation of the student on four distinct yet related areas:

1. Classroom achievement as reflected in an overall cumulative grade point average for university coursework (2.5) AND a cumulative grade point average for social work coursework (2.75).
2. Essential abilities and attributes for admission and continuance in the Department of Social Work.
3. Ethical, professional, and legal conduct as embodied in the NASW Code of Ethics, and University standards for student conduct.
4. Performance in field as reflected in ongoing faculty and supervisor evaluation, including a minimum grade of C in field seminar courses.
