
The IRS Data Retrieval Tool should be available within 2 to 3 weeks of filing electronically, and 6 to 8 weeks of filing a paper tax return. If you have not filed your tax return, you cannot use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool.
- Go to https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa.
- Click Login
- Enter name, Social Security Number and date of birth, and click Next
- Click Make FAFSA Corrections
- Enter your FSA User ID and the password you created when you filed your FAFSA, click Next
- Click Financial Information
- This brings you to the Parent Tax Information section. If your parents have filed their tax return, select Already Completed from the drop down menu.
- Read the information. If you can answer “No” to all of the questions, enter the Parent’s FSA User ID and click Link to IRS to navigate to the IRS website
- Click OK to leave the FAFSA website
- Enter all of the information exactly as it appears on the tax return and click Submit
- If the IRS can validate your parents’ identification, the IRS tax information will display
- Click Transfer Now and return to the FAFSA website using the links
- If you filed a tax return, proceed to the Student Tax Information section
- Repeat the steps
- Continue to the Sign and Submit section and click Submit My FAFSA Now to submit the corrections.
- Go to https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa.
- Click Login
- Enter name, SSN, date of birth and click Next
- Click Make FAFSA Corrections
- Enter your FSA User ID and the password you created when you filed your FAFSA, click Next
- Click Financial Information
- This brings you to the Student Tax Information section. If you have filed your tax return, select Already Completed from the drop down menu.
- Read the information. If you can answer “No” to all of the questions, enter your FSA User ID and click Link to IRS to navigate to the IRS website
- Click OK to leave the FAFSA website
- Enter all of the information exactly as it appears on the tax return and click Submit
- If the IRS can validate your identification, the IRS tax information will display
- Click Transfer Now and return to the FAFSA website using the links
- Continue to the Sign and Submit section and click Submit My FAFSA Now to submit the corrections.
