Southern Connecticut State University is seeking candidates for multiple Residence Hall Director positions. Southern Connecticut State University is a diverse and student-centered university dedicated to academic excellence, access, and service for the public good. The University is located in New Haven, a city rich with arts and culture, and less than 90 miles from New York City and 140 miles from Boston.

Reporting to the Associate Director or Assistant Director of Residence Life, the Residence Hall Director is a twelve-month, full-time, live-in professional who is responsible for developing safe, healthy and engaging living and learning environments for students who choose to live on campus.  Residence Hall Directors facilitate students’ development, help them to develop a sense of belonging, promote their overall well-being, respond to their concerns, and support their path to earn a degree.  Residence Hall Directors have responsibility for developing a welcoming and inclusive community across the residential experience that promotes academic, social and personal growth of the resident student population. Residence Hall Directors work collaboratively across the Division of Student Affairs and Office of Residence Life to build transformative experiences for Southern students.

The residential experience at SCSU helps to build a dynamic and vibrant campus life for all students.  Residence Hall Directors contribute in meaningful ways to create a culture of care and support; promote student academic success and persistence to a degree; and, ensure a community where residents are known for the unique contributions they bring to the community.  Residence Hall Directors work closely with their resident advisors and hall government to engage residents in learning around academic skill development; diversity, social justice and accessibility; mental health and wellbeing; career preparation; sustainability; civic engagement; and personal accountability. They also make living on campus a whole lot of fun!

A bachelor's degree is required; a master's degree in Student Personnel, Student Affairs, or Higher Education is preferred. Additional requirements include demonstrated commitment and ability to create just, equitable, inclusive communities where students feel welcomed and supported; strong written and verbal communication, organization, and problem-solving skills; ability to work collaboratively with others; effective ability to motivate others and build teams; understanding of and commitment to a holistic approach to college student development.

Preferred experiences, knowledge and/or skills:  leadership; supervision; program development and delivery; conflict resolution, restorative justice and mediation.  Those who are passionate about working with college students, intrinsically motivated and able to work in a highly dynamic environment are best suited for this position.
