Under the direction of the Director of Facilities Planning and Architectural Services, the Assistant Director of Facilities Planning provides direction in the planning of improvements to campus buildings and sites. This administrator is responsible for furnishing, programming, planning architectural design and technical assistance on current and future capital projects.
Works on all phases of facilities planning to meet facility needs of the university including the development of plans, specifications and drawings.
Works on preparation of the university’s annual capital budget request and five-year facilities plan.
Manages and maintains CAD/CAM system containing inventory of university facilities.
Works with the university administration in recommending design alternatives and solutions to improve space utilization in accordance with building, fire safety and health codes.
Develops a system for tracking progress on all in-house capital projects from initiation to ensure timely
expenditure of authorized and allocated funds.
Oversees the work of outside contractors on minor capital construction and renovation projects.
Prepares cost estimates and preliminary designs for all minor capital projects.
Serves as staff liaison to the President’s Advisory Committee on Disabilities, the University Space
Committee and other committees and campus organizations as directed by the Associate Dean for Facilities Planning and Operations.
Performs other duties related to those enumerated above which do not alter the basic level of responsibility of the position.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in Architecture, Engineering or Construction Technology or a
combination of education and experience in the construction industry totaling not less than five years.
College or university experience preferred. These qualifications may be waived for individuals with
appropriate alternate experience. Experience in the operation and utilization of CAD/CAM systems.
Knowledge of the construction process, methods, building materials and building systems is essential.
Individual must have strong interpersonal skills and effective oral and written communication abilities.
