Southern Connecticut State University is seeking candidates for a 10-month College Health Nurse Practitioner. The College Health Nurse Practitioner is responsible for providing high quality clinical care to the students in collaboration with the Director of Health Services. By serving as a healthcare resource to the campus community, the Nurse Practitioner also collaborates with other departments to serve the academic and educational needs of the students. Engaging students to embrace a healthy, balanced lifestyle which supports their lifelong wellness is a key component to the role. 

The responsibilities include accurate assessment, diagnosis and interpretation of diagnostic testing as well as being proficient with electronic medical records for documentation. In addition to oversight of the RN, the Nurse Practitioner is responsible for clinical supervision of nursing students as well as students in other departments including Public Health, Athletic Training, and Exercise Science. Contributing to the ongoing review and development of current policies and procedures in order to assist with the proper functioning of the department is necessary. 

The successful candidate will have the ability to promote the overall well-being of the university community; work collaboratively with students, staff, faculty, and the university community; and be able to assist with the development, implementation, and evaluation of outreach, partnerships, programs, services, and well-being efforts in Health Services programs. 

Possession of a current license to practice nursing as a Registered Nurse in the State of Connecticut.  Evidence of completion of a Nurse Practitioner program from an accredited educational institution with a concentration in adult and/or family practice.  Gynecological experience required. Certification by an appropriate national accrediting body; must maintain certification.  Licensure (per Public Act 89-389) as APRN.  Maintain certification in Basic Life Support for the professional rescuer.  Two to three years previous professional nursing experience. College Health, Emergency Room or Acute Care Medicine experience preferred.  Ability to interact effectively with others; interest in and ability to relate to college age students.  Able to work autonomously as well as in collaboration with other members of the health care team within the University Health Service.  Good communication skills – both written and verbal.
