Job Summary

The Executive Director of Healthcare Programs will collaborate with related Chairpersons to manage the academic programs, faculty, and staff of the School of Nursing, Interprofessional Education (IPE) program, Interprofessional Healthcare Simulation (IPHS) program, and other externally funded healthcare programs for the College of Health and Human Services.

Supervision Exercised

The Executive Director of Healthcare Programs provides supervision and evaluation of Chairpersons, Directors, faculty and staff in programs included in their portfolio of responsibility. The position reports to the Dean of the College of Health and Human Services.

Examples of Duties

This leadership position serves as the academic administrator for the School of Nursing, Interprofessional Education (IPE) program, and Interprofessional Healthcare Simulation program within the College of Health and Human Services. Responsibilities include providing direction and leadership to the Chairperson for the School of Nursing on issues related to hiring, development, and evaluation of faculty; managing course offerings, budgets, purchasing decisions, enrollment management, resource development, marketing, and communication; and reviewing and resolving students’ academic concerns. The Executive Director of Healthcare Programs will provide direction and leadership on strategic planning, budgets, resource development, marketing, and communication for the Interprofessional Education (IPE) program and Interprofessional Healthcare Simulation program.

The following examples of duties illustrate the general range of tasks assigned to the position, but are not intended to define the limits of required duties. Other essential duties may be assigned consistent with the general scope of the position.

  • Manage the selection, hiring, development, and placement of faculty and staff in the School of Nursing. This includes providing direction and engaging with the Chairperson on such issues as academic standards, required qualifications, proper allocation of faculty and staff to program offerings, and determining most effective use of faculty and staff within budget constraints. Also included is the requirement to direct and complete Dean’s level review of submissions for renewal, promotion, tenure and continuing appointment of faculty and staff.
  • In conjunction with the Chairperson, manage program offerings and achievement of standards for accreditation for the School of Nursing. Involved are such actions as reviewing enrollments, timing of course offerings, faculty teaching loads, appropriateness of courses and schedules for degree program objectives, tracking outcome data, and facilitation of curricular initiatives.
  • In conjunction with the Chairperson for the School of Nursing, review and resolve students’ academic concerns. This may include meeting personally with students and/or parents to hear their concerns, researching the issues, and providing advice and counsel.
  • Provide leadership for the growth of the Interprofessional Education (IPE) program, Interprofessional Healthcare Simulation program, and School of Nursing. This includes collaborating with related Chairpersons to develop and carry out strategic planning, develop and manage budgets, secure external resources, ensure effective marketing and communication, and establish operational procedures for related facilities in the College of Health and Human Services building.
  • Management of expense and equipment budgets for the Interprofessional Education (IPE) program, Interprofessional Healthcare Simulation program, and School of Nursing. This includes obtaining budget requests and estimates from the Chairperson and Directors, proposing an annual budget to the Dean of the College of Health and Human Services, determining how available funds are to be allocated, reviewing expenses compared to budget, reallocating funds as needs as conditions change, soliciting funds to meet special needs, and engaging in resource development activities.
  • Incumbents may perform a variety of additional tasks which, while collateral to the central role of the position, are considered essential in terms of the overall accountabilities of the job.

Qualifications

Incumbents must possess proven ability to effectively work with a culturally, linguistically, and ethnically diverse faculty, staff, and students. They are expected to have excellent oral and written communication skills along with strong Information technology literacy skills such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams etc.) Incumbents are required to have demonstrated advanced knowledge and abilities in the following:

A doctorate degree in a discipline that is represented in the College of Health and Human Services is required, along with a minimum of five years of professional experience in administrative/leadership roles in health and human services disciplines in higher education including some administrative experience with interprofessional education and academic nursing programs.

The Executive Director of Healthcare Programs is required to have demonstrated knowledge and abilities in the following areas:

  • History of excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service in a health and human services discipline in a higher education setting.
  • Demonstrated excellence in program proposal and delivery including grant writing, needs assessment, program planning, and evaluation.
  • Demonstrated experience and success with curricular development, program accreditation, strategic planning, project management, budgeting and reporting.
  • Understanding of and respect for shared governance and unions.
  • Ability to assess faculty and staff capabilities and performance and develop their competence in teaching, creative activity, service, and other responsibilities.
  • Experience with budgeting and financial planning directed towards achievement of strategic priorities.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of leadership.
  • Demonstrated personal and academic integrity.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of best practices in healthcare related to interprofessional education, simulation learning, and academic program operations.
  • Demonstrated excellence in communication, meeting facilitation, and conflict management.
  • Demonstrated success with grant writing and partnership development.
  • Demonstrated success with communications and marketing.
