Brief Description of Duties/Responsibilities:
The Journalism Department at Southern Connecticut State University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position beginning in August 2021. Successful candidate will be expected to teach three courses per semester in photojournalism, layout and design, journalism or drone technology (utilizing at least six different technology platforms) or multimedia journalism. The position will also teach one or two courses each semester that analyze how the various forms of news media provide news and information to the public with emphasis on the First Amendment. The successful candidate must be committed to teaching within a vibrant public liberal arts and sciences environment and demonstrate the potential for excellence in teaching, mentoring and research with undergraduates. All faculty at SCSU share in academic advising and participate in department/university service.
Tenure-track faculty at SCSU are expected to conduct creative activity/research in their area of expertise. These activities include, but are not limited to, research leading to publication of books and/or articles in academic and professional trade magazines and journals, performances in the fine and performing arts, efforts to seek funding in support of research and teaching needs, and contributions to workshops and conferences.

Master’s degree or higher, along with at least five years of professional journalism and hands-on experience in the use of Final Cut Pro X or Premiere, Excel, content management systems, such as WordPress, the entire Adobe suite including, Photoshop, InDesign (or comparable design software), and Audition.
Preference will be shown to applicants with: a terminal degree in journalism, photography, interactive communications or related field; and teaching experience at the college-level; and excellent verbal and written communication skills necessary to convey complex technological ideas and instructions. In addition, highly qualified candidates will have a demonstrated record of scholarship/creative activity in the specific areas of visual journalism, video journalism, drone photography, social media and web publishing. AN FAA remote license and affiliation with major industry organizations such as SPJ, NPPA, or RTDNA would be considered a plus.
