Assistant Coach - Football

Southern Connecticut State University (SCSU) invites applications for the Assistant Coach Football-Offensive Coordinator Coach.  Southern Connecticut State University Football has a rich history of success in developing student athletes and coaches. SCSU Football has over 200 alumni who have gone on to be drafted, become free agents or be selected to a practice squad within the NFL. SCSU Football has also has a rich history of developing coaches, and currently has four alumni actively coaching within the NFL. The Assistant Football Coach-Offensive Coordinator will provide leadership and preparation for all quarterbacks, wide receivers, and the offensive line, and will lead all offensive assistant coaches under the direction of the Head Coach.

Southern Athletics & Recreation  

SCSU Athletics & Recreation is a comprehensive and competitive NCAA Division II athletics program within a university environment that promotes student engagement, athletic achievement, academic success, overall well-being, and persistence to graduation.  Intercollegiate Athletics is a NCAA Division II program and a member of the Northeast 10 Conference.  Consisting of 19 athletics teams, SCSU’s outstanding program continually ranks among the top NCAA Division II programs in the nation and boasts a long record of dominance in the Northeast for both team and individual championships.  The Owls rank among the top 10 nationally within Division II athletics with 81 individual titles and 10 team championships. SCSU had NCAA championships representation in seven sports in 2021-22 and is ranked among the top half of all Division II programs in the Learfield Sports Cup for the 17th straight year. 

The Position

The ideal candidate for SCSU’s Assistant Coach-Offensive Coordinator will excel at on-field coaching, recruiting, managing and implementing an offensive strategy, fundraising, off-season training, assisting with administrative duties, academic oversight and community engagement activities. The successful candidate will help create a competitive environment that focuses on student-athlete success, including athletic performance, academic performance, and overall well-being, with an emphasis on students’ preparation for personal and career success upon graduation.  The Assistant Coach-Offensive Coordinator must also be knowledgeable of and committed to compliance with NCAA, Northeast 10 Conference and University regulations, as well as prioritize annual completion of NCAA coach’s curriculum required courses and timely submission of all required paperwork.  This position reports to the Head Football Coach and will attend to other duties as assigned by the Head Coach.  This coach will be an active and engaged member of the Athletics and Recreation Department, the Division of Student Affairs and the larger University community. 

Position Requirements

Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years of appropriate professional level experience are required. Master’s degree preferred. Also required are a commitment in following the letter and spirit of NCAA, Conference and University rules and regulations; and the ability to effectively work with a diverse population of student athletes and coaches at a university with aspiring to be a social justice and anti-racism institution.  These qualifications may be waived for individuals with appropriate alternate experience.
