Brief Description of Duties/Responsibilities:

The Department of Biology at Southern Connecticut State University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position. The successful candidate will teach introductory and advanced courses related to Anatomy & Physiology as well as coordinate multiple sections of a high-enrollment undergraduate lecture and laboratory course. Candidates must be committed to teaching within a vibrant, demanding public liberal arts and sciences environment, and demonstrate the potential for excellence in teaching, mentoring, and research with undergraduates. Candidates will enhance their profile if they can provide training that builds student skills in areas desired by biotech industry as part of SCSU’s BioPath initiative.

All faculty at SCSU share in academic advising and are active in department and university service. Tenure-track faculty at SCSU are expected to pursue scholarship in their area of expertise.  These activities include, but are not limited to, research leading to publication of articles in academic and professional peer-reviewed journals, seeking funding in support of research and teaching needs, and contributing to workshops and conferences. The successful candidate will involve undergraduate and M.S. students in an active research program.

Required Qualifications:

Applicants must have an earned terminal degree (Ph.D., M.D., D.V.M.,) in Anatomy & Physiology or closely related field. ABD candidates for the position must be on a course to earn their terminal degree by the start date. Candidates must have experience teaching at the college/university level.

Preferred Qualifications:

Highly qualified applicants will have:

  • Experience teaching anatomy and physiology courses
  • A record of scholarship that demonstrates the potential to obtain external funding and publish in peer-reviewed journals
  • Experience working with undergraduate/graduate students in a research setting
  • Postdoctoral research experience
