The Department of Health and Movement Sciences invites applications for a 10-month full time, tenure track position as a core faculty member within the School Health Education program to begin August, 2022.  The mission of the Department of Health and Movement Sciences is to provide exemplary graduate and undergraduate education in health and fitness. As a broad and diverse department, Health and Movement Sciences is committed to educating and developing leaders and practitioners in the areas of athletic training, exercise science, health science, human performance, physical education, respiratory care, school health education, and sport studies to benefit the public. Our School Health Education program offers an MS degree, a minor, and most recently the   development of an innovative accelerated BS Physical Education (pK-12 teacher certification) to MS School Health Education 4+1 program.
     
Brief Description of Duties/Responsibilities:

Primary responsibilities will be teaching within the university’s School Health Education Program in courses assigned by the Chairperson of the Department of Health and Movement Sciences in consultation with the School Health Education Program Coordinator. This includes teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in the area of school health education leadership, skills-based pedagogy, curriculum development, policy development, various health content, and/or other areas to support the department and program mission. This position will work closely with faculty in the BS Physical Education (pK-12 teacher certification) to deliver the MS School Health Education 4+1 accelerated degree program. Additional responsibilities will include: engaging in scholarly activity through publications, presentations, grant writing and/or research; providing professional service to the department, school, university, and profession; and advising graduate students.
    
Required Qualifications:

  • Earned doctorate or ABD in Health Education or closely related field. If doctorate is not in Health Education, the applicant’s master’s degree must be in Health Education.
  • ABD candidates are encouraged to apply and should make clear what progress they have made on their dissertation and a date of anticipated program completion. 
  • Teaching experience that aligns with the contemporary School Health Education curriculum. 
  • Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills. 
  • Ability to engage in meaningful scholarship/creative activity and secure external grant funding, leading to presentations at professional meetings and publications in peer-reviewed journals in the discipline. 
        

Preferred Qualifications: 

Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate:

  • evidence of teaching experience in School Health Education at both public school and college levels;
  • evidence of scholarly competence through publications, presentations, research and/or obtaining grants;
  • the ability to work and interact successfully with students and colleagues;  
  • evidence of student-centered, caring practices for students; 
  • evidence of a commitment to diversity;
  • ability to utilize technology in the classroom;
  • experience teaching synchronous and/or asynchronous online college level courses;
  • ability to teach courses in one or more areas of Health Education content, skills-based pedagogy, and/or curriculum development;
  • working knowledge of accreditation practices and policies;
  • willingness to assume leadership role(s) in response to future department needs.
