Located in historic New Haven, a city rich in art and culture, Southern Connecticut State University is a diverse and student-centered university dedicated to academic excellence, access, and service for the public good. The School of Business has had increasing enrollments, external fundraising success and occupies a LEED certified building. The School of Business has adopted the tag line “Change for Good,” and a focus on sustainability, conscious capitalism, student professional development and business community engagement woven throughout its programs.
The School of Business is in the design stage for a new 60,000 SF structure; this will be the first “net zero” building constructed by the state of Connecticut. The School is actively pursuing AACSB accreditation and is in the candidacy stage. Current undergraduate enrollment in the School of Business is 1,000 students, and the MBA programs enroll approximately 150 students. The School currently maintains subscriptions for databases like CRSP, COMPUSTAT and EIKON, and supports STATA, AMOS and Qualtrics. The School of Business maintains multiple channels of communication with the local business community and is actively engaged with the region’s employers. An active Business Advisory Council, made up of top ranked executives from the local business community, provides advocacy and support.
Brief Description of Duties/Responsibilities:
Southern invites applications from individuals who believe in the mission of public higher education and are committed to outstanding teaching and scholarship. Successful candidates will be disciplinary scholars devoted to a student-centric approach.
The university is recruiting faculty members under the theme of “Climate Change, Resilience, and the Blue Economy.” As part of this initiative, which focuses on Blue Economy, the Department of Management/IB seeks a qualified faculty member to fill this full time, tenure track position to begin August 2020. The faculty member will be expected to teach at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels; teaching responsibilities may include evenings and weekends. Scholarly activities, productive service and student advisement are required; engagement with the business community is expected.
A research doctorate in management or related field is required, preferably from an AACSB accredited institution. ABD applicants will be considered. Earned doctorate must be completed within two years of appointment. Alternatively, applicants with an appropriate terminal degree and substantial, recent senior-level practitioner experience will be considered.
Candidates must establish their ability to be qualified under our AACSB standards. All candidates must be able to teach effectively at the university level to a diverse group of undergraduate and/or MBA students. Candidates must demonstrate an ability to engage in meaningful scholarship. Candidates must have excellent oral and written communication skills. Candidates must have teaching and research interests that are meaningfully and substantively relevant to the Blue Economy.
- Experience teaching classes in hybrid and online formats.
- Evidence of creative teaching innovation.
- An ability to publish high-impact research.
- An active research agenda.
- A grounding in one of the established subfields of management (e.g. Strategy, OB, OMT, Entrepreneurship, etc.).
- Relevant industry or consulting experience.
