The Computer Science Department at Southern consists of 12 full-time faculty and offers an ABET-accredited Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, a Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems and a Master of Science in Computer Science with concentrations in Software Development and Cybersecurity.  We also jointly offer a new B.S. degree in Data Science with the Mathematics Department.

Brief Description of Duties/Responsibilities:

The Computer Science Department is excited to announce that it is seeking a full-time, tenure-track faculty member, to begin August 2020, as part of a cluster hire initiative in Healthcare Informatics. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to work collaboratively with newly hired faculty in public health, nursing, and mathematics within the health/medical domain.  The department is seeking candidates who are passionate about teaching computer science courses in the undergraduate curriculum as well as graduate courses related to the candidates' expertise and research interests.  Special consideration will be given to candidates in the area of human computer interaction including expertise in UI/UX, data visualization and/or AR/VR, but candidates in other computer science related areas will be considered as well.

 

Tenure-track faculty at SCSU are expected to pursue scholarship in their area of expertise.  These activities include mentoring student research, publishing articles in academic and professional journals, seeking funding in support of research and teaching needs, and contributing to workshops and conferences.  All Computer Science faculty at SCSU carry a teaching load of 9 credits per semester, share in academic advising, and participate in department and university service.

Required Qualifications:

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Computer Science (or a related discipline); a strong commitment to excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels; evidence of productive scholarly activity; and evidence of the ability to communicate effectively, both written and orally.  ABDs will be considered, if the degree will be completed prior to the start date.

Preferred Qualifications: 

Preference will be given to candidates with college-level teaching experience who have worked within healthcare informatics as well as those with a specialization in HCI related areas, including but not limited to UI/UX, AR/VR and data visualization.  Also preferred is evidence of research conducted with undergraduate students; evidence of interdisciplinary collaborative efforts in research/teaching; strong teaching evaluations; and evidence of curricular innovation and development.
