The mask mandate will come to an end and we will shift to a “mask-optional” protocol. However, we fully support and expect all employees and students to respect those who choose to continue wearing masks. Please note: no employee has the authority to ask or require the use of masks by others.
Faculty COVID Protocols
- If a student reports COVID Exposure or a Positive COVID Case to a course instructor the student shall be directed by the instructor, via email, not to attend class and to complete the COVID-19 Reporting Form. It is helpful if the faculty member copies the COVID Coordinator (email@example.com) for follow-up purposes. After completing the form the student will receive, via email from the COVID Coordinator, further instructions on what they should do regarding testing, quarantine and isolation.
- If a student reports COVID-19 symptoms to a course instructor, the student shall be told by the instructor not to attend class and shall be directed to the COVID Website. This link will provide them with further instructions on what they should be doing regarding testing, quarantine and isolation. It is helpful if the faculty member copies the COVID Coordinator (firstname.lastname@example.org) on this correspondence for follow-up purposes.
- In either case, the faculty member should work with the student to determine and provide any appropriate accommodations, they may require the student to provide documentation received from the COVID response team. To receive course accommodations, the student must request them from the instructor. Please note that if the student is symptomatic, but does not test positive, or if the symptoms resolve themselves with no test, the student would not have documentation. The incident would then be treated like any other illness that is reported to a faculty member.
COVID-19 Student Absences
Faculty should treat absence due to COVID illness in the same way that they customarily treat other illness, as we will follow the same protocols for notification (without specific indication that the absence is due to COVID). Faculty are encouraged to implement measures that were found to be helpful during virtual learning, especially if a student misses a class (e.g., posting PowerPoint or other visuals used during class, sharing class notes, etc.). Individual faculty members may also be amenable to a student taping the class to provide to the absentee. Faculty may request documentation from the student that the student received from the COVID response team. Students are encouraged to make arrangements directly with their faculty.
