Completing a degree program and preparing for today's job market requires that students be well prepared, creative, and able to use a variety of programs and services that help them develop the necessary skills. To provide our students with the most up-to-date and comprehensive career development tools, the Office of Career and Professional Development offers an array of career planning programs to help students decide what major to pursue, what career best suits them, and how to begin the all-important job search process.

Are you a Southern Student still considering how to leverage your major for your future? This workshop will help attendees understand majors, occupations, and ways to explore career paths. This workshop is best suited for exploring students who are considering multiple options for their career choice.
Fears about Entering the Workforce

Are you a student that fears going into the workforce post-graduation? Well, let us reassure you, you are not the only one. Student coming to the end of their academic career ponder if they can make it in the “real world.” So, instead of masking the fear, let’s chat. Come to this workshop and get your questions answered or discuss your fears about your move towards your career to overcome them. We are here to support you. This workshops is appropriate for undergraduate students in their last year or last semester.
Creating your Professional Digital Footprint

With the growing prevalence of social media searches during a candidate’s hiring process, we want to make sure that our search results present us in the most positive light. This workshop will help attendees understand what is an is not appropriate to include in your digital footprint. Attendees will also learn about LinkedIn and how to build an effective profile, as well as how to leverage the tool for strategic purposes. This workshop is appropriate for undergraduate and graduate students.
Your Top 10: Tips in Finding Jobs and Internships

In today’s growing world of work, it is important to know how to leverage your personal portfolio of skills, experiences, and connections in a meaningful way. This workshop will help attendees understand how to communicate their values, interests, strengths, and experiences both on paper and in person. This workshop is best suited for all undergraduate and graduate students.

Each year the Office of Career & Professional Development holds a career fair that brings national and regional employers representing all fields to the Southern campus. The fairs foster student and employer interaction while offering students the opportunity to explore various careers, learn about organizations and industries, and apply for full-time, part-time, internship, and cooperative education opportunities.
