Events

Completing a degree program and preparing for today's job market requires that students be well prepared, creative, and able to use a variety of programs and services that help them develop the necessary skills. To provide our students with the most up-to-date and comprehensive career development tools, the Office of Career and Professional Development offers an array of career planning programs to help  students decide what major to pursue, what career best suits them, and how to begin the all-important job search process.

All programs and events are open to undergraduate and graduate students. Fall 2022 events will be updated as soon as they are available. In the meantime, here's a sample of some of our past events.

Virtual Senior Career Boot Camp

Join OCPD staff as we host three separate workshops covering how to maximize your final semester, how to financially plan for life after college, and hear from recent SCSU alum of how they prepared for life after Southern.

Gain more knowledge of the Political Science, Anthropology, and Journalism majors to better understand what career paths you can take.


Campus Recreation and Fitness Resume Workshop

Discuss the benefits of participating in RecFit programming (i.e., Intramural and Club Sports) as they pertain to upgrading your resume for future employment opportunities.

Learn how to utilize your degree. We will share different resources and tools that can guide you on how you can be successful within your major, and all the different opportunities.


Help with Pre-Health

Learn all about the Pre-Health Journey. Topics will include a description of the Pre-Health profession, pre-requisites needed, grades and GPA needed, different majors within Pre-Health and more.

Career Fairs

Career Fairs are opportunities for students to connect with employers and organizations about upcoming opportunities. These experiences allow students to connect with local, regional, and national level employers and connect via video chat software.
  
Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce Internship, Career & Job Fair
545/555 Long Wharf Drive, New Haven, CT

The fairs foster student and employer interaction while offering all students the opportunity to explore various careers, learn about organizations and industries, and apply for full-time, part-time, internship, and cooperative education opportunities. This career fair occurs off-campus in the New Haven community. OCPD will provide transportation to students to and from the career fair site. You must RSVP to receive link for transportation reservations.  

   
Southern Hybrid Career and Internship Showcase (All Majors Fair)
Adanti Student Center Ballroom AND Online  

The career fairs foster student and employer interaction while offering all students the opportunity to explore various careers, learn about organizations and industries, and apply for full-time, part-time, internship, and cooperative education opportunities. Employers will have the choice to participate either in-person or virtually through engagement rooms. RSVP to receive continuous program updates.
