Update on COVID-19 from President Ojakian

Dear CSCU Community,

As many of us begin a new routine of working from home or prepare for a move to online-only learning, I wanted to take a moment to thank all of you for adapting to an ever-changing landscape. The COVID-19 pandemic has already changed our day-to-day lives on profound levels. Activities and interactions we only recently took for granted have now become off limits. I want to assure you that the entire team at the CSCU system is treating this outbreak with the seriousness it deserves and we are doing everything in our power to put the health and safety of our students, faculty, and staff at the forefront of everything we do.

To that end, our campuses will remain closed to the public through at least April 5, with a potential to review and extend that closure if necessary. While some core functions will need to continue, we are endeavoring to have as few people on campus as possible. For those whose jobs will require them to be physically present, we are implementing even stricter cleaning protocols to protect the health and safety of all.

Above all, during this stressful time, we shouldn’t forget that self-care is essential. Social distancing  is critically important to the state’s public health efforts to slow the spread of the virus, but it does not mean shutting our lives down – so remember to check in (virtually) on your friends and family, look for online yoga or exercise classes, and take a minute to relax and breathe deeply.

And remember, if you experience the known COVID-19 symptoms, including fever, cough, or shortness of breath, call your health care provider for medical advice.

My team and I are working closely with college and university presidents and CEOs, and the state’s emergency response team to mitigate the impacts of this illness on our CSCU community. We will continue to provide you with updated information.
