From President Bertolino re: Spring Break Travel Plans for Faculty/Staff

March 9, 2020

Dear Faculty and Staff,
By now, you will have read President Ojakian’s letter strongly discouraging personal travel outside of the state of Connecticut during spring break due to the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus across the country and abroad. All institutionally sponsored out-of-state travel has been frozen until further notice.
If you already have bookings and do decide to pursue personal travel, I ask that you share some basic information about your travel plans with us so that we have the background knowledge we need to keep our campus safe and healthy for all.
The CDC has listed a number of travel alerts, particularly for countries designated Level 2 or Level 3  (currently China, Iran, South Korea, Italy, and Japan, but the list is growing). If you travel to a country that is Level 2 or 3 today, or a location that is designated as such while you are there, you will be required to remain off campus for a period of at least 14 days from when you arrive in the United States and are asked to self-quarantine during that period.

Therefore, please be prudent in your travel choices – even within the United States – and continue to monitor changes in travel alerts and follow ongoing guidance from the U.S. Department of State and the Centers for Disease Control.

And finally, wherever you’ll be during your time away from campus, please remember to take basic precautions: regularly wash your hands for at least 20 seconds and avoid close contact with people who are sick.
I will continue to communicate with you as this issue evolves. You’ll find the latest updates at
Thank you in advance for doing your part to maintain a healthy learning environment on our campus.
Joe Bertolino
