Helpful Tips From Office of IT

Before you call or email the Help Desk asking for assistance with VPN access, Jabber or Softphone, voice mail access, call forwarding, etc., please read the following important information that will speed up your ability to work from home.

Please note that the following applications can be accessed from anywhere you have an Internet connection without needing to connect to the SCSU Campus VPN:

MyApps Portal, O365 Suite (including Outlook Email, Teams, One Drive, SharePoint etc.), Banner Web, Core-CT, Blackboard Learn

Guidance on access to the MyApps Portal (also known as MySCSU) can be found here.

All Faculty and Staff have access to the SCSU Campus VPN; you don’t need to request an account.  You can download and install the Global Protect VPN software by going to this page. There are also video instructions (link at bottom of this message) on how to install and configure the Global Protect software.

You will need to connect to the SCSU Campus VPN in order to access Jabber, the My Voicemail portal and the student worker authorization portal.

It is not necessary to submit a Helpdesk ticket for remote access to Jabber, the My Voicemail portal, or the student worker authorization portal, as they are all available to everyone on the VPN.

For instructions on Jabber, visit this page

For easy to follow video instructions on Jabber, Softphone, UC Self Care Portal (for voicemail and forwarding calls), visit this page.

Any issues with installing Jabber, please put in a work order to HelpDesk@southernct.edu and include if you have a PC or MAC.

If you need remote access to your  on-campus computer in your office, please submit a ticket to the Helpdesk requesting remote desktop access. You will need to connect to the SCSU Campus VPN in order to remotely access the computer in your office. If you need remote access to Banner Admin Pages, we recommend making a remote desktop connection to the computer in your office and then accessing Banner Admin Pages via the remote desktop connection. If you do not have a computer in your office to make a remote desktop connection to, please submit a ticket to the Helpdesk explaining the specific systems you need remote access to via the SCSU Campus VPN.

Thanks for your patience.
