We invite applications for a 10-month full time fellowship position serving as a faculty member within the Department of Public Health. Fellows will be hired for a 2-year appointment, beginning August 28, 2023, at the Assistant Professor rank and salary level. The position will include a reduced credit load and opportunities for professional development with teaching, research and service.
The Department of Public Health at Southern Connecticut State University is part of the College of Health and Human Services where 24 different disciplines share values of interprofessional, experiential, and community-engaged teaching and learning. Since 1982, the Department has offered a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in public health, one of the first programs of its kind in the United States. Three Master of Public Health (MPH) programs are currently offered: an on-ground and an online program in health promotion and an online accelerated program in executive management. The vision for the Department is to be a leader in academic public health, community service, and the conduct of research relevant to advancing the ideal of healthy people in healthy communities. The Department strives to advance the state of public health practice and to promote and protect the health of the public by involving faculty, students, health professionals, officials, and the public in appropriate instruction, community service, and research. Students are expected to have a broad understanding of the areas of knowledge basic to public health and specialized knowledge and skills basic to health promotion and environmental health. In addition to their academic achievements, our students are highly educable, energetic, enthusiastic and professional in approaching their assigned responsibilities. The Department of Public Health is located in the new 94,000 square foot Health and Human Services building.
Brief Description of Duties/Responsibilities
General, health promotion, or leadership focus with the ability to teach biostatistics or epidemiology. Other teaching assignments may include core public health topics, specialty courses in the areas of epidemiology or biostatistics, and/or public health management. In addition to teaching responsibilities, faculty are expected to engage in scholarship/creative activity, service, and student advisement.
Required Qualifications
- Earned doctorate or ABD in Public Health or closely related field. ABD candidates are encouraged to apply and should make clear what progress they have made on their dissertation.
- Ability to contribute to the diversity and excellence of the university.
